Finally. Pics!

Finally. Here are some pictures of my most recent projects (laminate floor and headboard).

The old floor. This is actually the floor in the hallway because I forgot a before shot of my room. It was painted soft wood. Eventually I'll do the rest of the house.

The new floor! I hadn't planned on installing laminate, but my sister had extra and gave it to me so i figured why not?

To create the headboard I took an old wooden door, cut it to size, framed it with 2 x 4 and painted it. Then i attached it to the wall. Here are the results:

The door looked like this before the construction:

Close-up. It's too bad you can't see much.

I'll be hangning some B&W photos I've taken, but for now I just placed them above the headboard.

I also made the bedskirt and all the cushions as well as the night table cover which you can see in an earlier picture

Finally, I took an old wicker laundry hamper I had since I was 14, fixed it up and repainted it to match. The bottom had fallen out so I "sewed" it back on with twine.

The Time-Space Continuum

I just looked at my calendar and realized I only have 5 weeks of classes left and then it’s time for finals. Holy crap!! If I remove today, Good Friday and Easter Monday it means I only have 22 days of school left. Gah! This boggles my mind and is making me a little anxious.

Isn’t it weird how time seems to speed-up, as you get older? I guess it’s because when you are 2 years old, 1 year is half your life, but when you are 30 years old, one year is only 1/30 of your life. It’s also bizarre how periods of time seem shorter as you get older. When I was 10 and my sister was 20 I was half her age. But now that I’m 32 and she’s (soon to be) 42, I’m almost 3/4 her age. One day, when I’m 90 and she’s 100 I’ll be 9/10 her age… it’s almost like I’m catching up to her. :-)

Happy Leap Day!

2008 is a leap year which means it has 1 extra day tacked on to the end of February. I had always assumed leap year was every four years, but it seems it’s not that simple. A leap year is one that can be divided by 4, but not divided by 100 unless in can be divided by 400. Confused yet? It basically means that 1800, 1900 and 2100 are NOT leap years, but 2000 and 2400 are leap years.

Leap Year has been the traditional time that women can propose marriage. Obviously these rules don’t really apply to modern day courtship, but when the rules were stricter, women were only allowed to pop the question on one day every four years. That day was February 29th. Apparently this tradition was started in 5th century Ireland when St. Bridget complained to St. Patrick about women having to wait so long for men to get off their ass and propose! According to legend, St. Patrick said the yearning females could propose on this one day in February during the leap year.

Maybe this is an omen. Maybe today is the day where I don’t need to wait for the universe to get off its lazy ass and offer me what I want… maybe it’s the one day that I can tell the universe what I want and it has no choice but to give it to me. Hmmmm… such prospect for the day.

So what are you going to do with your extra day?

Show yourself

This is purely a curiosity post. I often wonder who reads this blog. I know of maybe 5 faithful readers and then once in a while I get a comment from someone and am surprised they read my blog. So indulge me – make yourself known readers. :-)

Drunk-dialing is a serious disease!

Drunk-dialing.
Verb (Nonstandard)
1. the need to call everyone you know when copious amounts of alcohol is consumed.

Friday I headed to Pictou for the good’ol Lobster Carnival. Of course, much beer was consumed for the occasion. Having been a victim of my drunk-dialing obsession in the past, I took some precautions for the evening and deleted any “dangerous” phone numbers from my cell phone. Numbers like ex-boyfriends, single friends or anyone else I thought I might call in a moment of weakness. Some numbers I KNOW I won’t call… like my sisters who both have kids and would kill me if woke them up just to tell them how awesome they are. Or my friend Michelle who is 5 months pregnant and can’t stay awake past 8:30 PM… I mean; I DO have a conscience.

Around midnight the urge to dial was just too strong. I flipped through my contact list and when I got to the last name without finding a suitable chatting partner, I got desperate. Friends… I’m not proud of what I’m about to write next, but in my effort to promote the seriousness of drunk-dialing, I feel the need to share. I called myself. I called my office and left MYSELF messages. Good Lord I’m sad!

Well, one thing I can say is at least I’ll be smiling at my desk on a Monday morning for the first time in a long time. Hah!

Memories...

I've stolen an idea from Chelle over at Chellezilla

"Leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn't matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember! Don't send a message, leave a comment on here. Next, re-post this in your [blog] and see how many people leave a memory about you."

Now we wait to find out if I have any friends. :-P
