Snow Day!

I was quite shocked this morning when the radio announcer said University was closed! The University never closes! I was thrilled because Monday is my busiest day with classes from 8:30 to 4:30. I also have a big project due in a few days and could really use the extra time to work on it. The down side of a snow day is shoveling. Two hours of carting around the white stuff, helped by my roommate and a couple of random guys I paid $10 each to finish the job and my driveway is finally clear. Phew.

You know what? A two hour workout for a day off is pretty good deal to me. Sadly they are calling for another blizzard tonight. Frankly, if I don't get a snow day and still have to shovel, I don't get the point.

I’m 33 and not much different

I just realized I haven’t updated since my birthday! As predicted, I did turn 33… apparently you can’t get around that one. It was a fairly calm birthday which included lots of birthday greetings, a couple of new uniforms from my mom, a lovely family diner and cake at my sister’s (on Sunday) and quiet diner for two with Mr. Maybe. We went out for diner for my birthday, nothing fancy, but I was glad he acknowledged it.

On Saturday we wished each other Happy Valentine’s Day, but decided we didn’t want to recognize the holiday created to depress single people and stress out couples. We did go out, but we didn’t go crazy with gifts, cards and fancy diners. Instead we went for a long 2-hour walk at a local park, played a few games of pool and finally tried to warm ourselves up with hot tea back at his place. It was freezing on Saturday!

This week, I’m enjoying the absence of exams. Speaking of, I got most of my results back. Classes in which I got A’s last semester, I got B’s, where as classes I usually got B’s, I ended up with Cs’. Meh. I know it reflects the effort I put into them… which wasn’t to my full potential. I’m ok with my results, but I know I can do better. Next time I will.

This makes me all kinds of nervous

I’ve met Mr. Maybe’s friends twice. He has yet to meet any of mine. For weeks now I’ve been trying to think of a situation where he could me someone of importance to me, without making it seem like an elaborate plan to “meet the friends” or “meet the family”. Well, tonight might be the night. My usual way of easing a new guy into the family/friend situation is a Saturday night of playing cards with my sister and her husband. Since my sister is both my best friend and my family, it’s a good starting point. So, I’ve thrown the idea to my sister who is up for the challenge and have sent him an email asking if he likes playing cards. Now I wait.

I have no idea what his response will be. I don’t see him has a card playing type of guy, but then again, he has surprised me in the past. I don’t think I’ve ever been this nervous about introducing a guy to friends or family. Maybe it’s because I actually care about this one? I can usually imagine how the interactions will go, but with this one, I’m clueless! He’s a pretty quiet guy, but I wouldn’t call him shy. Conversation has always been pretty easy between us, but I have no idea how he is with new people. I honestly have no idea if my sister and brother-in-law will like him. :-S I guess I just have to take the plunge at some point, right?

Edited to add: I guess it's a go! My sis and bro-in-law get to meet Mr. Maybe! EEEEEKKK!

It's Friday and I feel like posting about several random topics. Instead of a few shorter posts, I've decided to group them into a longer one.

My cornering abilities aren’t as great as Pacha’s. This is what happened to my knee while playing a rousing game of tag with Pacha this week.

I think the colours are actually quite pretty. It's like a rainbow. :-)

No Longer Nameless Boy

Thanks to the suggestion of a friend, I’ve decided to call the boy Mr. Maybe. For obvious reasons I didn’t want to use his name here, but I also feel bad constantly referring to him as The Boy... it’s just not very manly.

Taking Bets

My birthday is next week (February 11). I had never really told Mr. Maybe my birthday was coming up since I didn’t know how to broach the subject without sounding like I was hinting for a gift. On the other hand, I think I’d be a little peeved if it was his birthday and he let it pass without telling me. So, I figured I subtly let him know. I told him I was disappointed because my next clinical is on a Thursday and Friday evening putting the kibosh on my Friday night Birthday plans. When I saw him last Saturday he ask when my exact birthday was, so now he knows.

Now I’m trying to figure out if he will do anything for my birthday. I really have no clue how he will acknowledge it... it could be anything from a high-five and a Happy B-day to a romantic diner. So place your bets people! What’s it gonna be. The winner will receive nothing but the pride of knowing they were right. :-P

Another one bites the dust

I guess the couple living with me are splitsville. She’s moving out at the end of the month. *sigh* And so, the revolving door of roommates continues. This will be my 7th roommate in 18 months.

My roommates are arguing! :-( She’s screaming at him over the phone… not sure where he is. It appears to be about him spending time with some girl. This is not good. I just heard her say: "You know what pisses me off the most? I called and asked where are you and you told me you were at Fred's and all that time you were with her!" As I listen to the one-seeded argument, I keep thinking, Dud! you really effed up!

Updates All Around

School
• Things are going really well with school, although I had a lot of trouble getting back into the swing of things in January. I think I was still spent from my first semester. With exams starting next week I have no choice but to get swinging!
• I’m loving my practicum! I feel like I’m learning so much and am slowly building my confidence.

Work
• I’m only working one day a week at the restaurant but it’s still too much. When I wish upon a star, I imagine I didn’t have to work while studying. *sigh*… one can always dream, I guess.

Home
• I currently only have two roommates and although I miss the extra money of a third roommie, it’s a thousand times better. I have a couple living with me and I have to say, they’ve been great. They are really quiet and so far the guy has shoveled the entire driveway every time it’s snowed! As a bonus, I have yet to be woken up to the sounds of loud sex coming from the next room.

Pacha
• Still adorable as ever. Here’s a picture of her on Christmas day (hence the bows) with the new collar I made her.



The Boy
• I’m still seeing the same guy. I guess we’re approaching the 3-month mark.
• A few weeks ago we decided we weren’t dating other people, so I guess that would make us exclusive.
• Around the same time, I had also come to the conclusion that I didn’t think he was Mr. Right, but that I was perfectly content with Mr. Right Now. I might have to go back on that… I’m NOT saying he’s Mr. Right, but I’m not sure I can count him out just yet. I don’t know… the last few times we were together there was just something there. I’m proceeding with caution.
